Girl Gang

girl gang - [noun] women supporting each other in the revolutionary act of doing whatever the hell they want

Usually seen with bold statement graphic tees, to patches, and hand painted moto jackets- they are girl gang. A community of teens to young women who are all about feminism, self love, girl-hood that are supportive of one another. From DIY zines, to chicana DJ vinyl clubs, and glittery filled blogs which are all managed, ran, and started by females for females.

It all started back in the 90's on the West Coast in the punk and alternative music scenes- the Riot Grrrl movement. An underground feminist group where the Girl Gang aesthetic started. With a lot going on in the world today from the economy, women's rights, gender rights, to political uncertainty these young women are taking matters into their own hands through matters in their own hands. They want to be herd, seen, and respected.

Take a look at the key influencers of the girl gang scene and what kind of message they want to put out there:

A digital platform ran by and for teen girls with a virtual locker where they can store and share links, videos, images, poems, etc with others on the virtual community. Creating a safe place for young teens where they can be themselves and share their interests with others.

A group of young latina women from Austin, Texas where they feed off vinyls that trace back to their roots and culture. They spin from the mid-west to the west coast to Santa Ana all the way up to San Francisco spreading their love for vinyl. Check out some of their upbeat mixes to get you moving!

The first rock n' roll magazine annually published made by women for women. Featuring different topics from rock, punk and indie about music journalism, art, and DIY zines. Standing out from the crowd and creating a space where all female musicians and artists can be themselves in a male dominated industry of rock music and journalism.
