Artist Spotlight: Yayoi Kasuma

Known for her polka dots and subliminal colorful art pieces- Japanese Yayoi Kusama's latest art installation is something worth checking out. During the 60's and 70's, Kasuma's work reflected a time where one started to voice their opinion on social class, war, and civil rights where her work appealed to New York's turbulent political and social environment. She was involved in protest demonstrations posting nude fighting for her view on women's rights within the art and museum world as well as the Vietnam War. Yayoi has collaborated with multiple artists as well as fashion designers, influencing the design world for years to come. Growing up with a mental illness as a child she was prone to hallucinations where she saw vivid images of the world, distorted by colors and shapes"The Infinity Room" at the Broad is the perfect example to express the impact of her interior mind on the external environment.
