Breaking Bread In L.A.

No day in Los Angeles, CA is ever the same. Discovery is inevitable on your daily journeys, and lead you to places, things, and people that you never expect to run into. That is what happened on Thursday February 25th 2016 when we came across the Think Tank Gallery. In the heart of the fashion district, tucked away amongst the endless bolts of fabric and savory hot dog carts, is a gallery pushing the limits of what one may think a gallery should be.

Break Bread, the current exhibit at the Think Tank Gallery is “30 days of arts, culture, and cuisine, set in a whimsical-yet twisted- Candy Land” running until March 13, 2016. Created by Banksy collaborator Scott Hove and artist Baker’s Son, this 9,000 sq ft exhibit features floor to ceiling cake sculptures, a life size ice cream truck, Zoomanity themed bar and lounge, and beautiful water color images. Enhancing the experience is a pop up coffee shop by Stumptown Coffee and nightly special events such as supperclubs, comedy shows, performances, brunches, speakeasies, and more.

Walking through the exhibit, you get a Willy Wonka meets horror movie feeling. You want to eat the cake, but the incorporated wolf jaws and switch blades beg you not to. The use of carefully angled mirrors allow the exhibit to expand and as you walk through the hall of mirrors to the water and fire room you are surrounded by shades of colors, and never ending cake.

If you are going to be in the Los Angeles area prior to March 13th, this truly unique experience show be on your to-do list.

It is a free event (reserved tickets are required).
